THE DEPARTMENT OF CARDIOVASCULAR AND THORACIC SURGERY
The Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery started functioning in VMC Speciality hospital from July 2015.
The unit has been set up by the visionary Chairman of Velammal group with the intention of bringing the latest technology in Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery to the footsteps of the people of Southern Tamil Nadu.
Since July in this short duration we humbly hope that we could match the expectations, of the people of this part and that of the primary physicians who have entrusted their patients with us. As part of extending our reach we would like to join the entire team of doctors in this part of the country to carry out the crusade against cardiac diseases.
VMC Cardiac surgical team is headed by DR.L.MOHANAKRISHNAN, one of the senior most experienced and reputed surgeon, in our country. He has many firsts in the field of cardiac surgery to his credit. His professional skill combined with the infrastructure of VMC Speciality hospital, Madurai will certainly leave a mark in the Cardiac surgery map of India. He heads the team of three full time cardiac surgeons.

Cardiac Anasthesia and Intensive Care is looked after by a team headed by Dr.P.SELVAKUMAR , reputed anaesthesiologist . Under him there are full time cardiac anaesthetists : Dr.B. KRITHIKA, Dr.E.BALAJI ,Dr.HAMILTON .
Supporting the above team of doctors there are dedicated Nursing staff, physiotherapists, respiratory technicians and Dieticians.

The theatre complex is a state of art facility with laminated steel walls, laminar air flow and HEPA filters matching NABH specifications, for utmost sterility. It has the best of heart lung machines, haemotherm and surgical instruments from leading manufacturers like Scanlan and Pilling. The anaesthesia machine, monitors, defibrillators, the autoclave and sterilisation facilities matches the best available in the world at present.
